The Primary purpose of Friends of Woodman Point Recreation Camp Incorporated is to manage the usage of the Isolation Hospital at Woodman Point Recreation Camp; to support groups that use the facility; and to assist the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Department of Environment and Conservation with interpretation and conservation tasks at the Park sites
A Brief History of the Friends of Woodman Point Recreation Camp (Inc).
* The old Isolation Hospital was originally offered to the South Coogee Scout Group and they remained the tenants of the building until it was declared unfit in 2003
* The suggestion of establishing the FWPRC was raised by the Department of Sport & Recreation's Hugh MacLean in 2000
* The Australian Naval Cadets ( Commander Jim O'Neill ) was approached to establish a unit in the City of Cockburn and to this end became involved with the FWPRC from its instigation
* FWPRC became incorporated on May 10th 2001
* Inaugural Meeting of the FWPRC on Thursday 9th August 2001
* December 2001 - FWPRC Applied for Lotteries Grant
* April 2002 Sea Kayak Club ( " SKC " ) expressed interest in using the facility and Eric Pyatt became SKC representative for FWPRC
* May 2002 - Kate Doust MLC - Presented FWPRC $69,441.00 on behalf of Lotterywest.
* June 2002 FWPRC held a 'Back To Woodman Point Open Day' in conjunction with the Department of Sport & Recreation to which VIPs were invited to a morning tea and presentation of the cheque from Lotterywest.
* June 2003 - Applied for City Of Cockburn Small Equipment Grant
* June 2003 - Management Sub-Committee held their 1st meeting 19th June 2003
* July 2003 - Contract for Work granted to NUMAN'S BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION - Scouts vacated the building
* August 2003 - Work started on the Isolation Hospital
* November 2003 - City Of Cockburn Small Equipment Grant successful, and received $1500
* August 2004 - NUMAM'S contract completed, but building still not ready for use and Department of Sport and Recreation included the Isolation Hospital in its planning for major CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN for all buildings on site
* December 2006 - "Sandover Pinder Architects" appointed to complete the works at a final cost $8.82 million, including $657K for the Isolation Hospital. Builders JM and ED Moore appointed as builders.
* June 2007 - FWPRC applied for a Lotterywest heritage interpretation grant for an archaeology survey of the former quarantine stations' cemeteries.
* September 2007 - Work completed in late September.
* October 9th 2007- Official Opening of Woodman Point Recreation Camp
* December 2007 - Lotterywest awarded Friends $20,375 for the archaeological survey on the basis of a $5,000 in kind contribution. ( Volunteer labour by Friends )
* January 2008 - JM and ED Moore announced the winners of the Master Builders "Best Restored Heritage Building in Australia"
for their work at the Woodman Point Recreation Camp.
* May 2008 - FWPRC applied for a Lotterywest Service Accommodation and Community Facility Grant of $47,868 for upgrades to the Isolation Hospital.
* 26th May 2008 - Friends' Founding President and the former leader of South Coogee Scouts, Tony Lyndon-James, passed away.
* June 2008 - FWPRC applied for a Lotterywest Heritage Interpretation Grant for interpretive display cabinets in the DSR office foyer ( old laundry building )
* June 2008 - Results of the Lotterywest Heritage Interpretation Grant for an archaeology survey presented at an open day on 7 June.
* Presentations were delivered by Gaye Nayton, Heritage Archaeologist, and author, Ian Darroch. Friends' life membership was presented to to Bob Poore.
* August 2008 - Andrea Lyndon-James elected as President FWPRC, Earle Seubert elected as Vice-President.
* September 2008 - Lotterywest funded the Service Accommodation and Community Facility Grant of $47,868 to fit-out the kitchen, provide security alarms, blinds, disabled toilet, plumbing and ramps to the Isolation Hospital
* September 2008 - FWPRC apply to the Commonwealth of Australia Volunteer Grants Program for ( $5000 )
* November 2008 - FWPRC receive funding for the Lotterywest Heritage Laundry Block Interpretation Grant ( $ 13, 715 ) *
* January 2009 - FWPRC have confirmation from the Hon. Jenny Macklin and receive funding from the Commonwealth of Australia Volunteer Grants Program of ( $ 4951,14 )
* February 2009 - FWPRC apply to Lotterywest to fund a further Service Accommodation and Community Facility Grant
* 28th February 2009 - Friends' Initial Life Member and former committeeman Robert ( Bob ) Poore, passed away.
* July 29th. 2009 - Completion of Lotterywest Heritage Laundry Block Interpretation ( $ 13,715 ) *
* August 2009 - FWPRC apply to Lotterywest for Woodman Point Recreation Camp Interpretation Grant
* October 12th. 2009 - FWPRC receive funding from Lotterywest for Service Accommodation and Community Facility Grant ($21.412 ) *
* November 2009 - Completion of Isolation Hospital decking and quoted pathways project ( January 2010 ) from Lotterywest Service Accommodation and Community Facility Grant *
* November 9th. 2009 - FWPRC receive approval from Lotterywest for Woodman Point Recreation Camp Interpretation Grant ($16,500 )
* January 2010 - Completion of Isolation Hospital pathways project by Warnerbrook Concrete from Lotterywest Service Accommodation and Community Facility Grant
* April 2010 - Apply to City Of Cockburn for Volunteer Community Grant ( $ 3,000 )
* 14th April 2010 - A tour of Woodman Point Recreation Camp facilities by Ms Faye Baxter and Ms Michelle Beer of Lotterywest.
* 18th April 2010 - Friends of Woodman Point Recreation Camp (Inc) commence Heritage and Historical Tours of Woodman Point Recreation Camp and Regional Park.
* Friday 7th May 2010. Official Opening of the Bertie Poore Room in the Administration & Dormitory Block at DSR Woodman Point
* 10th May 2010 - Receive approval from City Of Cockburn for Volunteer Community Grant for Projector & Screen ( $ 1,925.57 )
* 21st May 2010 - DSR Woodman Point Recreation Camp nominated for The Gerry Gauntlett Award for Excellence in Adaptive Reuse in the State Heritage Awards 2010.
* July 2010 - Apply for Lotterywest Grant of $16,300 for construction of beach access pathway for disabled and aged persons.
* July 2010 - Friends receive confirmation of Federal Volunteer Grants approval and receive funding from the Commonwealth of Australia Volunteer Grants Program of ( $ 4987.00 )
* September 2010 - Completion of Woodman Point Recreation Camp Interpretation Plan by Crowe Media being total of ($16,500 )
* September 2010 - Purchase (50) chairs for Isolation Hospital community use, courtesy of Lotterywest Grant
* October 2010 - Receive approval of Lotterywest Grant for the construction of pathways, including a beach access pathway for disabled and aged persons. ( $16,300 )
* October 2010 - Purchase office furniture for community use in the Isolation Hospital , courtesy of Commonwealth of Australia Volunteer Grants Program.
* December 2010 - Warnerbrook Concrete are successful tenders for the construction of pathways, including a beach access pathway for disabled and aged persons.
* December 5th 2010 - Official unveiling of the ship's bell from the "Empire Mist" by Mr. G.M. Griffiths in the Isolation Hospital.
* January 17th 2011 - Warnerbrook Concrete commence construction of beach access pathway, and disabled pathway.
* March 16th 2011 - Friends Group nominated for Category 3 Heritage Award. "Outstanding contribution to heritage by a community-based organisation"
* March 19th 2011 - Memorial Service, titled "Thirty Days In Nineteen Thirty" held in Isolation Hospital & the Crematorium for Sister Barbara, who passed away of smallpox in the Observation Hospital on the 17th March 1930. Organised by Sister Eugenia Brennan of the Sisters of St. John of God and Earle Seubert from the Friends of Woodman Point Recreation Camp.
* 20th March, 2011 - June Poore, wife of 'Friends' initial Life Member, Bob Poore (Dec) passed away.
* 5th April, 2011 - Apply to Lotterywest for Community Grant for Interpretation Signage for Woodman Point Quarantine Station Heritage, Ecological and Educational Trail on behalf of Department of Sport and Recreation. - $6732.00
* 5th April, 2011 - Apply to Lotterywest for Community Grant to control invasive grasses in the Woodman Point Regional Park on behalf of Department of Environment and Conservation. $10,001.00
* 17th April, 2011 - Apply to the Federal Government Voluntary Grants program for $4308.00 for educational equipment.
* 7th June, 2011 - Purchase "Hands Free" Personal PA System for Friends of Woodman Point Heritage Historical Tours. $211.00
* July 2011 - Receive approval from the Department of Environment and Conservation for a Community Grant for Interpretation Signage for Woodman Point Quarantine Station Heritage, Ecological and Educational Trail. - $6732.00
* July 2011 - Receive approval from the Department of Environment and Conservation for Community Grant to control invasive grasses in the Woodman Point Regional Park to the value of. $3,000.
* July 2011 - Friends inaugural quarterly newsletter, " The Pratique " is produced and sent to members.
* August 2011 - Friends commence an Interpretation and Restoration Project by assisting the Department of Environment and Conservation involving the former Woodman Point Explosive Magazine situated in the Woodman Point Regional Park.
* September 2011 - Application for the Federal Government Voluntary Grants program for $4308.00 for educational equipment was unsuccessful.
* 24th October 2011 - Pat Wade ( nee Deane ) 'Friends' member, passed away.
