Edith Sommerville Thistlethwaite
1881 - 1960

Trained Nurse Edith Thistlethwaite, aged 34 years, enlists in Melbourne with the Australian Army Nursing Service unit of the A.I.F on the 10th April 1915. She embarks with the FIRST AUSTRALIAN GENERAL HOSPITAL, SPECIAL REINFORCEMENTS for duty in Egypt, France and England. She returns to Australia, at war's end where she serves as Sub Matron at No. 16 AGH, McLeod Military Hospital in Victoria, and then at Woodman Point Quarantine Station, Western Australia, in 1919 where the Spanish Influenza crisis is at its worst, brought about by increasing numbers of troops returning from the Great War
